    For better or worse, I've followed the advice of J. Charles "Scotty" Thompson ("So You're Going to Wear the Kilt"), in which -- IIRC -- he recommends leaving just the pommel of the sgian visible.

    Though my current sgian dubh has a rather generous antler crown handle that doesn't allow me to shove it deeply into my hose top, I generally like about 2/3 of the handle hidden, which I guess equates (more or less) to Jock's inch and a tad
