Interesting! Of course the original Britons, the ones in posssession when the Romans invaded, dyed themselves blue using wode, as alluded to in the OP. Or at least that is supposedly where the name "Briton" comes from. If the Picts were a separate tribal culture, it would be surprising if they did the same.

I seem to recall that the Romans thought and wrote of the Picts as being "some sort of Germans" because they were tall and fair-haired.

It's true. I saw one when I was little. My grandmother lived in that part of Kentucky. [Insert jokes here]

They didn't mention Mohawk haircuts? Not surprised.

    Well, I saw it...

I won't give away any good bits, but I came away with mixed emotions. I thought the depictions of all historical people groups were exagerated a lot, except the conquest nature of the Romans.

SEMI-SPOILER ALERT, DONT READ BELOW IF YOU DON't WANT TO KNOW HOW THE "SEAL PEOPLE" WERE DEPICTED:

Anyone else wonder why they had on t-shirts and what seemed to be over-sized army jackets? Lol To me they looked like James Bond russians who happened to be blue, idk. Your thoughts?

So basically it sounds like you're saying they look like US Vietnam war "vets", I mean as they're traditionally portrayed in the media?

haha yes, but with mohawks. IDK, it was like watch a real-life version of avatar almost. I think there were some accurate points and some things that just can't be known, but then I also think some stuff was too exagerated. But! It was definitely a great guy movie!

I get the uneasy impression that they've taken Ms Suttcliff's post WWII novel about quiet devotion to one's duty and to one's country and, in the British sense, to The Empire and turned it into one with heroes that have the usual self-serving motives that Hollywood understands- but of course I don't know that. Definitely a must-see but not necessarily a must-see-right-away.

Pity those Romans from Sunny Italy stuck in cold and foggy Britain - and all that work to keep their armour clean in the rain. The Romans always seem to lose Legions to barbarians in massacres - and though this is based in truth, they gave far more than they got most of the time. And those blue Picts - Neil Oliver said it wasn't woad (blue paint) but blue tattoos that made them blue. And they certainly wouldn't have spoken Gaelic. Nobody knows what the Pictoi spoke. Another excuse to keep the UK film industry alive. At least we're not haranguing them for wearing the wrong tartans.
