I had just asked a few weeks earlier why "Scotty" was never seen in a kilt and there he is!

I believe he also wore a kilt when meeting Abraham Lincoln in "The Savage Curtain".

I read this on some tv trivia website (I lost the link):

Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in Star Trek: The Original Series wears a kilt onscreen twice, in the Scott black & white tartan, both in the third season*. He also wears a different Scott tartan in The Wrath of Khan.

I'm not sure if both episodes were in the third season (see photos to follow).

From an older thread from 2006 there is the photo below as well as some disagreement as to what tartan this Scotty kilt costume is, what film it was in, and even *if* it’s a legitimate costume!

In one episode of Family Guy they parody the Wrath of Khan funeral scene, with Brian in Scotty's place, and he is wearing a kilt...maybe that's the source of confusion.

The other night I was watching TNG and it was the episode where Dr. Crusher buried her mother on a planet which was populated with human colonists who modeled their society, architecture and even the weather after Scotland. Hardly a kilt to be seen...which from what I've read from Jock and his countrymen would be fairly accurate. I was disappointed when I first saw it years ago, but I guess they did some homework in the wardrobe department before filming.

Scotty always wore a kilt with his dress uniform in the original series. After that he never wore it again. As one of the pictures showed, James Doohan did end up wearing a kilt in the same tartan years later.

That one on display is not from any Star Trek but is probably someone's attempt at what it would look like. I think it is a shame that at Spock's Funeral they did not have him in a kilt, as I think it would look great with those red jackets they wore in that era.

At the risk of revealing myself too much of a geek, I have a red dress uniform tunic from the original series that I bought specifically to wear with my kilt. I do not wear it often, but when I do there are more knowing nods of approval than one would think.

Geek out man! I was considering doing the same thing, with an OS movie tunic, until I saw the mess dress jackets in Nemesis. Now I'm thinking of a black version of the same jacket for my next convention...which are sadly getting less numerous and not of the same quality they were "back in the day." That reminds me,I need to dig through some boxes for that picture of Sir Patrick Stewart, Jonathan DelArco and I at Starfest in Denver, 1993 or 94...can't recall which year.

BTW My son is named Miles Stewart Darwin Maltbie. Stewart for Patrick Stewart, Miles for Miles O'Brien, and Darwin for the Beagle's most famous passenger. If that ain't geek, what is??

I wonder if there was any reason for James Doohan not being kilted in Wrath of Khan or if it was simply overlooked at the time.
