    "Ae Fond Kiss" and Burns

In preparing for the upcoming Burns Supper this weekend (Jan 15, 2011), I did some research on a couple of short, romantic poems by Burns. I came across the following, which may be old hat to many of you, but it was new to me. And, I must say, delightful, and refreshing.

The more I know of and study Burns, the more I admire and like his work.

it's beautiful sung too. One of my favorites.

.....try the version sung by Maura O'Connell, she has a beautiful deep and haunting voice that I think really adds to the tone of the poem/lyrics.

I'm in the middle of committing to memory 'The Fornicator.' But that doesn't qualify as romantic. Probably a good thing that this year I'm attending a Burns Supper near Chicago. I enjoyed being with the Great SEKS rabble last year.

Yes, Ae Fond Kiss is a very emotive goodbye song, always brings back memories of happy times with past loves.

Yes, Alex, I agree. It is almost haunting in its beauty and pathos.

Of course, Clarinda, aka "Nancy," was leaving Burns and Scotland for Jamaica . . . and her husband!

Kind of gets you all choked up.

I'm particularly partial to Eddi Reader's take.

Our own Blaxcot (aka Mike Ogletree) has also recorded a nice reggaefied version:
