Need Burns supper outfit advise

Hi all,

I'm to attend a Burns supper tonight, and plan on going in my kilt.

I have a Ghillie shirt, but no brogues, and am wondering if to go casual with a regular shirt or to go with the Ghillie shirt even though I only have 'regular' outing shoes.

As I have black hoses, I think I'll wear them as to not to freeze, though they don't feel very comfortable in the regular shoes.

Need opinions if maybe to wear regular top with "hiking" shoes?

My opinion: Wear a regular button-down shirt and a tie. Black hose and dress shoes are fine. If you have no jacket, perhaps a light sweater.

Ties are not something that goes around in Israel.
But then again neither are kilts.

Don't have a tie to fit anyhow

thought to wear a v-neck long sleeve jersey (color blue should fit my thistle colors kilt), or the black ghillie top, or the the ghillie won't do?

Can you be more specific about these "'regular' outing shoes"? What exactly are they?

If it were me, I'd leave the ghillie shirt at home and go with a regular modern button-up shirt. I would not wear hiking shoes with it either. A pair of regular dress shoes will be more appropriate.

Thank you for the proper English phrase - they are black leather dress shoes.
The whole event is non-formal dress code as far as I know, but thanks for the tip about the ghillie shirt. will live that at home

Out of curiosity, have you spoken to anyone else who's attending to get a feel for what the customary dress standards are?

AA,

yes with the organizer who is a local Whisky society.
No standards at all. He does a lot of events, and ppl dress casual.

You're going out to dinner.
Leave the ghillie shirt and hiking shoes at home.
Why are your hose uncomfortable with "regular" shoes?
Are they too thick?
