Yeah, I'm starting to think that this idea is doomed. I tried to float an idea to make something more inclusive and universal, and it sounds like people still have a lot of hurt feelings about this.
I don't understand why this forum is generally so heated as of late, and why this particular issue seems to bring out some rude behavior in otherwise civil posters.
But.. I really like the idea of an Xmarks standard roaming around. I'm personally against a quaich because it's traditionally used for whiskey. I think that the sentiment is right, but I think that a flat badge-type of standard would be easier to ship, and would only serve the purpose of a standard, not also a cup, flask, etc.
Then again, if people are going to be this reactive, then maybe the window for this type of unifying icon for our community has closed. That would, to me, be very sad.

Me thinks we might be over thinking this and "forcing" the issue. As I see it, and I may be living ignorantly in the Romantic part of my brain, the real beauty of the Saltire that I think is being overlooked was that it was a "totem" that a member spontaneously developed and sent, allowing it to travel with the somewhat natural winds to direct it's course. It was the launching and travel of the Saltire that was the real prize. Not the Saltire itself.
Somethings you don't plan (especially in a committee or with a quorum). They just happen. This might be one of those things.

On a more serious note. I did suggest (somewhere else on here...) that we should abandon the idea as the eventual outcome of the Saltire Airship, however unintentional, seems to have caused more rift than unity and I'd hate to see that happen again.
However, I'm ever the flip top head.
I'm with you Todd. I reckon if we are to have a travelling thingamabob, nothing would be more appropriate than a Quiach. Highland Tradition at it's finest. Made by a Scottish Company from high quality materials. Travelling to all corners of the world and enabling each XMarks member to share a drink of their chosen bevi (not necessarily alcoholic... it is but a drinking vessel) with all other members before and following them.
Great idea. Where do I send the money?
Oh, wait a minute...
The only downside I can see is that in some areas of the world, postal services do not have "death by boiling in oil" as a consequence of tampering with the Queen's mail and a valuable travelling item may not be in circulation for very long.
Other than that, as I say, I love it and I'd look forward to sharing a dram with you Sir. (and you... and you...)

Give it a little time: perhaps the window has not yet re-opened.

Have we considered something as simple as a teddy bear or summat? My mom has a Snoopy doll with a stocking cap and has badges from everywhere she's visited stuck in the cap. Perhaps a kilted bear that can be shipped relatively safely...?

a nice wooden circular(to represent the world) plaque with a xmarks badge style motif on the front of it... tooled leather round the rim to protect it and a xmarks tartan material scotch guarded to protect the lifespan of the tartan either behind the motif or as a backer
i reckon each part eg the leather, wood ,tartan and motif come from different continents to show a item of unity
buy hey ho that's just my bit :P
