I like single malt and rum, though I prefer Bacardi. Its hard to make a pina colada with Scotch. Guess I'll just have to live and let live. In any case when we lose the ability to laugh at ourselves we've reached the point of fanaticism.

I wore a likt to a dinner/seminar on Gandhi Friday. A friend suggested my knees were too knobby for a kilt. The disgusting thing is, he's right!

Meh, I have drank both. However, if I drink rum its with coke. Scotch, neat.

oooOOooo! Trinidad tries to bite! Who cares? It's Trinidad. I think Scotland is secure enough to let this piss-poor island try to insult it.

    What he said!

    From the article...

Lorimer Mackenzie, chairman of the Saltire Society, which promotes Scottish values, said: "I don't think they're really making fun of Scots; they're making fun of whisky.

"And it has to be said that if the Scottish tourist industry decides that the only way to sell Scotland overseas is through tartan and haggis then we should not complain when other people take them at their word."

He added: "The Scottish image is bigger than whisky and haggis. We have given so much to the world that we should not be sensitive about people having a laugh at a false image of Scotland."

In contrast, Pussers pays homage to whisky by referring to itself as the "single-malt of rum".

Before judging the entire island because of a silly advertisement, perhaps a history lesson is in order:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=-Ic...inidad&f=false

A lot of Scots immigrated to the Caribbean, and even Burns considered it.

Making negative comments about Trinidad in general -- isnt't that what the ad did about Scotland -- shouldn't we be better than that? We're a' Jock Tamson's Bairns.

I know former Trinidadians who tell of fistfights breaking out in bars there because a non-Scot presumed to wear a necktie with someone's clan's tartan. However I would tend to dismiss those accounts as one-off colonial behaviours. Alhough it's a wee little thing, I won't ever buy that rum, and that's for sure. First rule of advertising is not to offend your target audience and if Scots aren't drinkers....

Meh, no different than that Absolute ad that showed Mexico occupying most of the SW US. It is playing up to the local market at the expense of a remote one. I can see where they are trying to feminize scotch whisky and masculinize their fermented sugar water, but certainly no lover of scotch is gonna be swayed by the ad, so it is really just about making rum drinkers feel less small when surrounded by whisky drinkers
