I remember those. . .You just need to get a big enough sporran!

It has a strap right? Just wear it in place of a sporran sometime and see how folks react. When someone asks you can tell them "Sporrans carry what you need to carry and I figured this was all I needed.":

It is about the size of a sporran, I guess... It's a kid-sized canteen, of course.
Looks like it's about nine inches in diameter. The cloth cover has a snap on either side of the opening that allows the canteen to be removed. The opening is on the side at the top and has a plastic, screw-in cap (the threads are on the inside of the neck of the opening) and the cap has a chain attached to the top and the neck.

There is an adjustable strap, made of the same cloth as the cover, but it does not look to be removable.. It's interesting that the center of the back of the canteen has a concave area that allows the canteen to be placed on a flat surface with the opening facing upward.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

depending on the vintage, I guess...

Memory is a tricky thing, but I believe my older brother's hand-me-down BSA canteen was in fact 2 quarts, which is 64 Oz in this country, i.e., the same size as the big flask. It banged around enough hanging from your shoulder. I don't think I'd want it at sporran level if I was going on much of a hike...

2 quarts of good Single Malt is barely adequate for a short walk through the Mall.

This one holds one quart of fluid, MacLowlife. Like I said, I was in the Cub Scouts when I was ten or eleven years old I guess, and it's a little kid's canteen.

We had navy blue shirts with yellow neckerchiefs, having blue designs, if I remember correctly. And I think the cloth on the canteen is khaki.

I only seem to have the canteen from that time...
