@Mike, Clansmen is a bit of an in joke (won't go into it) with my in-laws who are Chinese and the nik-name has stuck fast now.

Sounds like the problems my great-aunts (my grandmother’s sisters) had as girls, getting their tongues around my grandfather’s surname. Although it’s a German name, they called him Mr Italy, and then The Gay Italian (gay not meaning then what it does now!).
Somehow it stuck, and it gave my grandmother many a good chuckle many years later.
