Don't worry about it mate, your'e at the start of a kilted life. What you wear is all about the level of dress expected at a function. If it was a formal wear evening event I would say that you are not there yet in regards to the kit you have. but for most other times, such as where people are going to wear casual, smart casual, you have it covered, Up until formal wear you can dress a kilt up or down with shirts, ties, jumpers/sweaters, short bomber style jackets.
Most importantly is that you feel comfortable and from your description of what you will be attending, the sporran you have will be fine.

In a casual or country setting I see nothing wrong with wearing a flat cap ( unless tartan! ), but why would you want to? The balmoral is inexpensive, comfortable, practical and more "in keeping". Unless formal ( day or evening ), put your feet into anything comfortable for the weather/terrain

Black skater shoes with a casual kilt get-up: fine! Flat cap in the same setting: ditto! "Day" sporran worn at all hours: ditto!
Don't over-think this. At this point, treat your casual kilt as a pair of jeans and you'll be just fine (though I don't like white sneakers with a kilt!).
While your waiting to get properly sized hose, a trip to Dick's for x-large sized hiking or boot socks should fill the bill.
See you on Friday...!

Brother, wear the flat cap and don't worry another thing about it. The flat cap thing has become somewhat of a joke on this forum; it's true that a flat cap isn't "traditional" with a kilt, but neither is a baseball cap, and I wear those kilted (and non kilted) all the time. I can't stand the balmoral bonnet, personally, so when I want a piece of Scottish headwear, I go with the original style of hand knit and felted bonnet.
Shoes are much like hats- some will be more "traditional" than others, some will look better with a kilt than others, and some are just what you're comfortable in. For accessories right now, you have what you absolutely need- a sporran to keep your stuff in. Other than that, use what you have on hand. If kilt wearing becomes more common for you, when you go shopping for clothes, you'll start to consider how things (shoes, shirts, jackets, etc...) will look with a kilt, in addition to how they'll look with p@nts.
In short, don't worry about too much and wear your kilt with pride and comfort.
I'll also add that I bet you'll really enjoy the feel of a kilt that comes to your true waist, once you get used to it. At that level, a kilt can stay on your hips because of its tailoring; p@nts and low-rise kilts must rely on pressure at the belt line/waist band to stay up. In short, once you're accustomed to it, a higher rise kilt is more comfortable and less constraining.
P.S. Forgot about the sporran. With sporrans, plain leather in brown is the old standard for "day", though we have them in black now too. Fur is for "evening". That said, as others have mentioned, it's the level of formality that matters. Personally, I'd go so far as to say that for a pub or concert, a black plain leather sporran is the perfect choice.

Don't over-think this. ..!
What he said...I wear a Celtic Croft philabeg when kilted. Only other kilties know its not a modern style kilt. I wear hiking boots and Knee socks, no flashes or garter ties, no kilt pin. I wear balmorals, tams, or berets on my head, or if its real cold a wool watchcap, even wear a derby to the pub at times.

Depending on what sort of boot you're trying to find, you may wish to check out any local gothic clothing stores or military surplus shops. Unless you have already done so, in which case I'm not sure what to suggest, but I do sympathize on the issue.

If you can afford Doc Martins then you can afford ghillie brogues, which are the most Scottish-looking shoes available and which are much loved on kilted people everywhere- except of course in Scotland . But to answer your question, when I have to go kilted for long distances or lengthy periods I wear hiking boots or shoes. I even try to match colours and shades.

I never said i couldn't afford brogues. I said i haven't found any in a size 15 wide. I don't remember saying anything about money.
