Now, now, while I agree on the ties and ball cap, the wearing of several different tartans, was a common MO of the well to do. It was a way to flaunt thier wealth. LOL, certainly not my situation, nor my intent.

What was the type of jacket, historically worn with a double breasted waistcoat, or was there a particular style of jacket.

I don't think double breasted tartan waistcoats are traditional at all! I've never seen one, and that's why I'm getting one! It's unique.

EDIT- Just did a google search and came up with... this thread. That's it. So as far as I can tell, this will be, like me, a one of a kind! Can't wait!!

Double Breasted waistcoats may be unusual for kilts, but I believe they are readily available as formal wear in the UK. Pakeman, Catto & Carter offer them for those willing to spend 75-100 GBP. They have also been worn as daywear- I believe in the 19th century... They usually have a straight-cut bottom, which ought to do well with a kilt. Aren't your waistcoats sometimes double breasted, Ancienne Alliance?

O! I look forward to the pictures of that waistcoat. Will it be on the bias? That sounds almost too complicated, but it would be something to see!

I didn't mean to insult anyone - or their thoroughness in searching. I am not sure how I knew about these, but here is a pic for those who are having some difficulty imagining it.

I am sure Hothir and Nighthawk have worked it out, but I suspect you'd want the body on the square, so that you could have the lapels on the bias. Doing it the other way- bias body with lapels angled into being horizontal- might be a little bit much. Anybody got an example we can see?

The whole thing is going to be on the bias. As to the lapels, I was thinking about them being a solid color- the same color as the lining- a deep purple, maybe...

And no insult was taken at all. I know perfectly well my search was cursory at best. I just used the term "double breasted tartan waistcoat" for the search. It turned up on result, and that was for a ladies vest. And thanks for that link!!
