New look for our web site
Hi all!
Today we launched a new look for our museum's web site. Check it out!
http://www.scottishtartans.org
The gift shop site is still the same. We are working on a new design for that part of our site, as well, but it's a lot larger and more intensive then our main web site, so that will be a while in coming.
In the meantime, I hope people enjoy the new look for our museum's pages. You'll hopefully find them easier to navigate, and discover some new features, as well.
If anyone encounters any typos, broken links, or other bugs, please let me know!

Kid's Coloring Pages
One of the new features of the web site is an addition to our "Free Downloads" section. In addition to the desktop backgrounds and "fact sheets" that we had before, we now have some neat line-art "coloring book" style drawing which you can download, print off, and give to the kids to color!

Here are a couple of small samples.
Enjoy!

Museum Membership Program
In conjunction with the launch of the new website design, we are also introducing a Museum Membership scheme, which is something our Board of Directors has been keen for us to do for a while now.
So, as of today, any individual has the opportunity to sign up as a Member of the Scottish Tartans Museum. We have a five-tiered membership structure which starts are only $25 per year for basic individual membership. The different membership levels come with different benefits, but all of them come with the satisfaction of knowing you are contributing towards the educational and cultural goals of our unique museum.
Check it out!

(We've already had some people asking about group memberships for businesses and clan societies. Obviously those would entail a completely different sort of membership level & benefit structure. We are working on that concept so stay tuned!)

Relative to how slow my internet connection is I think you did great overall. Plenty of graphic content, but it downloads relatively quickly.
Certainly a couple kudos ought to be passed out.

Membership Question
Matt:
It is unlikely that I will be in your area any time in the near future. I am curious as to why with the Basic Membership that there is no discount if you order from the store online. I can completely understand that the discount would not apply to shipping, but unclear why not merchandise. Perhaps you can enlighten me on this?
Thanks

Well, I'd like to say that membership discounts are good on in-store only purchases because we want to entice people to come visit us in person. :-)
However, the real reason is because we don't have a professional website design team (aka, I do all the work myself) and I simply do not possess the technical know-how to give members a code which would automatically deduct a percentage discount from every item in their shopping cart. I actually don't think that can be done with our current PayPal shopping cart system.
But what we do plan on doing is making available certain discounted items or other specials that would be available in a members-only section of our web site, which members would be notified about via email. So there will be some web offers you can take advantage of.
One day we do hope to be able to offer an on-line members discount, when we have the technical ability to do so.
