    Alterations

Can the waist of a kilt be altered to fit a smaller size? I'm smaller now than when I first bought my kilt, and I'd rather not buy a new one. Any help is greatly appreciated. int:

There was a thread about this not so long ago, you can move your buckles further around towards your back. If you use the search function next to new posts I am sure you will find it easily. Barb T gave some great info on this subject

Yup, you can take 6-9" easy. I took six inches off one of mine.

Moving the buckles closer together is pretty easy. The nail biter was cutting a new hole through the pleating for the strap on the inner apron to pass through.

I ran blanket stitch, sometimes called whip stitch around my new strap hole to keep it from fraying. The whole process took about two hours, but I do have some hand sewing experience.

On the left-hand side, I have moved the strap rather than the buckle. The under-apron can "underlap" the original buttonhole. That is the conventional way of doing it.
