On topic the first paperback Time Enough for Love IIRC had Lazarus in a neoclassical toga-like garment. Or was that my replacement volume from the 80's??? Different ones have tracked the audience's interest in various aspects of the story/Tertian culture/etc.

From both methuselah, and time enough, it was mentioned that he strapped them to his thigh...but yes...a well concealed backup is usually wise...

In one it also mentions the reason he adopted the attire of a Highland Chief, it REQUIRED the display of 3 weapons, while allowing others to be easily concealed.

From your signature may I assume you are of Clan Htiek?

I asked because the Clan motto is Veritas Vincit, Truth Conquers. You are from the evil reverse Universe where Conquers Truth is the motto

[QUOTE=Orthzar;955700]I would say that the almost casual mentioning of characters treating kilts like everyday attire says how much Heinlein thought of them as a garment. Heinlein could have praised kilts, but instead only occasionally mentioned their usage.
    QUOTE]

Well, for an American former naval officer of German heritage living in New Mexico and writing in the period R.A.H. did, any mention of kilts is pretty good if you ask me.

There are a lot of Heinlein fans around.

When at a folk festival I slid a recorder into my waistband where it was held by the strap of my drum. Recorder as in woodwind musical instrument.

When I removed the drum and hoisted it up onto a handy bay-window ledge, the recorder slipped and I had to trap it and then extract it from inside the aprons.

A passer by grinned and said 'I was expecting a blaster. Is it in C or F?'

I grinned back and said 'Shhhh - it is in E - the power supply distorts the key.'

There was a couple sitting close by who looked at us as thought we'd each just grown a second head.
