I'm pretty conservative in my dress and probably would not wear this kilt, but in general I like the look. I would clean up the look with a black button down shirt (maybe a self colored tie also) instead of a t-shirt and add a black belt with a "snazzy" buckle to compliment the art inside and require a dressier shoe instead of sneakers.
You can see a bit of the pleats from the side in a couple of those pics and it could be a pretty cool effect to see the "wave lengths" oscillating.

Oooh, I'm a bit dizzy now after having saw the kilt...lol However fair play to them what a great way to advertise for free, the vast majority of people will enquire after the kilt and that then spreads the word around as they inform their friends, post photo's on social network sites etc.
How do you disperse an angry Scottish mob?
Nae bother - just take up a collection.

I also think it looks like a sarong. I think if they dressed it up a touch more it wouldn't look that terrible. Also a sporran is NEEDED!!

Missoni is a fashion house, infact a very important fashion house, and for a long time their signature product was knitwear, multi-toned and multi-coloured, usually in geometric patterns but stripes became a very strong element featuring in a lot of their products.
Obviously they have opened an hotel using their name featuring their designs and their products, after all it's a great marketing oportunity.
I'm not so bothered one way or another about these kilts, but at the same time I don't feel I have to be so negative about them, they are not being "traditional Highland" kilts, but rather a contemporary styling, so I really think that we should realise that and not imagine that they are breaking the rules and therefore not "exactly correct" Perahps I would change things about the rest of the outfits, but that is more of a personal thing.
I make kilts both in a very traditional tartan handsewn 8 yard style, but also machine made much more contemporary fabric 5 yard style, I welcome both types, there are places for both, and places for one or the other.
Surely this hotel is a place for a contemporary styling as it is a very contemporary styled hotel.

I spotted a guy in Edinburgh last week wearing one of those kilts but I didn't manage to capture him on camera.
Is it pleated, or is it just a skirt?
It is a proper kilt, with knife pleats at the back.

I'm not the most fashion traveled person in the world, but did anyone else notice in the picture with the three gents together that one kilt has the pattern on the horizontal and the other two kilts have the pattern on the vertical. Sorry, not my cup of Tea.
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

Yes, that did catch my eye. And it’s not my cup of tea either.
But there is bound to be someone out there accusing us of being too matchy-matchy!

Would love to see a pleat shot.
I think they are kind of cool. But I would insist on a belt and sporran. But that's just me.

Missoni is actually a family run company specialising in knitwear. They have been quoted as saying that "fashion is about wearing today what you would not have wanted to wear yesterday and will not want to wear any more tomorrow"
One feels it must have been said tongue in cheek or that they must have a pretty keen sense of humour because Missoni knitwear is considered a staple of a classic international wardrobe. Granted opinions on the asthetic will be divided and the look imposes a high requirement in terms of a sense of style but, never the less it appears, that it is here to stay and I, for one, applaud Missoni for embracing Scottishness in their own special way; preferable to puking tartan at it... in my humble opinion.
I am personally much more offended by the shoes, the fleece, the 't-shirts', the thin hose, the watch; well, everything else, if I'm honest.

There seems to be a mixed reaction from the members of this forum with regards to this type of 'kilt', some like it some do not.
It would also appear that there seems to be a movement to get more men in pantless garments, whether it be the traditional kilt or the more modern versions of it and the latest type as we see in these photos from the Edinburgh hotel.
I have grown up with the traditional kilt and that is what i mostly wear but we know that the kilt is a pleated skirt for men but things are changing quickly in the fashion stakes as they always do. The traditional kilt will always be with us and somehow I always think it looks the best.
Perhaps its getting near the time when we can say that a man should be happy in what he wears whether it be a kilt or a skirt.
Lets face it we are all extremely happy and content when we are wearing the kilt, so skirts for men may just be an extension of what we like although this obviously would not suit all tastes
