Precisely AKScott, Its hard to tell that it is pinstriped indoors in a darker environment. And even outside, from 15 or 20 feet away it would be almost impossible to identify.

Here they are at last!
Here is one, and I really was not angry. The waistcoat is currently to long, but that will be remedied soon.
Here's a close up of the kilt/waistcoat
So, whats the general opinion?

I bet my wife wouldn't let me wear that, but I bet some of the more experienced folks on here could make it work.

I think it works, the first photo, I can't make out the stripe and the second looks like an extreme close up and no one but your girl should be getting that close to you You said in a earlier post that an inside photo did not pick up the stripe, so all in all I think that you will look dapper in it with no worries about the stripes
BTW You talk about shortening the waiscoat, are you going straight across a la HRH Prince Charles?

I've only pulled off a pinstripe waistcoat with my solid saffron Irish kilt.

In thinking about this question, I have harkened back to the sound advice I have received from our resident traditionalists. They have indicated time and time again that mixing patterns in Highland attire is fine, perhaps even encouraged.
The only rub here, is that I haven't seen pinstripes included in people's descriptions of Highland attire... if the mixing patterns theory holds, it shouldn't be a problem.
I think that the pinstripe is sufficiently subtle and will look good to me. Once you get the vest altered, of course!

I like it! I do need one of those waistcoats. Thanks for the pictures- been thinking about this for a while.

I think the straight across look is very much the way to go. If you look at photos of Lady Chrystel's creations you will see that they seem to sit better when wearing a sporran.
I don't know how much you paid for the waistcoat, but if you are going to have it altered anyhow, perhaps the straight across look is for you.
If you check out the Gentlemens Emporium website, you will perhaps be able to judge what yours may look like
All the best whatever choice you make
