Of course any relationship must have give and take, but the premise so often aired on these pages mostly in a subtle way, is that kilting needs approval from others - especially significant others. Outwith the corporate world where men are still expected or in deed required to present themselves in a uniform
(wow - I get a choice of ties - ain't life grand) approval isn't required. Until we can get that across to our young folk, I fear we'll all still be viewed as being slightly eccentric.
On the other hand, I take my hat off to some of the wonderful ambassadors on this forum who kilt with pride regardless !
I think you have made a good point about cloting, and the marketing of clothing, with regards to the mainstream. It is very much based on the approval of others, some women really believe men notice their shoes.
A regards to those who go about kilted, I really don't think they need approval at all, in fact I think it is more approval be damned kind of thing. I think what, for them most part, is wanted is support in the proper wearing of the kit, and that those the matter most to them are supportive of their individuality. JMHO.... for what it's worth

We usually have a family dinner at my daughters on Saturdays so last week I wore my kilt. My daughter said what ya dresssed up fer ya don't usually bother. I wore the same shirt, shoes etc. The only difference was a kilt and hose instead of my best smartly pressed trousers. Says it all dunnit.
