I day-dream of tartan and sporrans, belts and buckles, brown and black. I can completely miss parts of conversations while my mind drifts to tartan and perfect selvage. Do you think kiltaholism is genetic...locked away in some undiscovered link of DNA's twist only to strike without warning? This has never happened to me before. Am I ever glad it did! It's such a..."good bad"! Aye! Thanks for your posts. They are great. I hope you keep writing 'em.

I caint help but beleive this is the answer. A bird caint resist flying and we Scots caint resist kilts/tartans. I really do beleive its genetic. My soul soars when kilted!
Somebody ought to.

Just try to keep things in perspective. We joke about this being an "obsession", but don't forget that obsessions can be counterproductive.
One of my wake-up calls was learning that the folks in the Old Country don't keep closets full of kilts but rather have fewer things but they insist that those things be of high quality.
Best

I think I agree that it is in our DNA... It's in mine and was from a young boy but only being able to be realised in all its glory a few years ago. I love it!

Last weekend I was in San Francisco at the Steinhart Aquarium. While looking at the tropical fish I found myself relating them to tartans I liked.
"Oh look at that dark maroon and green one, it looks like a Lindsay"
(again, the tartan, not the people )
It is a funny condition, but fortunately it's consequence is mainly to our bank accounts!
Haha, I love it!!!!

Yes indeedy!!
I'm addicted yes, and I was ever since I got my first practice chanter back in 1974.
I went through a period, while I was working at a Highland Outfitter in the 1980s and could get things at cost, that I went on a crazy buying spree and had loads of jackets and sporrans etc etc.
Then in the 1990s I pared down to a piper's basic kit: one kilt, one sporran, one black Argyll jacket, one Glengarry, one pair of white hose
Joining Xmarks a couple years ago, unfortunately, has brought on a relapse of my old 1980's HDAD (Highland Dress Aquisition Disorder).
Suddenly I just had to have a Lovat tweed day jacket. Again. And a charcoal grey jacket. And ornate shooting socks. And an Isle of Skye kilt.
It's seeing all the photos of how great these things look!
But I do try to keep things at a minimum, and everything of high quality.
