Medieval Times Dinner Experiences

Hallo!
My daughter and son-in-law have arranged for our family to go to the Medieval Times Dinner in Schaumburg IL. Do people dress up for these events like they do for Ren Faire? Have any fellow XMarkers gone in their kilts? I was thinking of wearing my Ren Faire Great Kilt. I know it's not real "period" but I figure it would fit the general atmosphere. Any suggestions or feedback on whether / how to go kilted to this event would be appreciated.

The only one I've been to was in Buena Park, California (by Knott's Berry Farm). Strictly Hollywood. Wear anything, outrageous is okay. Authenticity is not a goal, entertainment is.

I have been to a couple in the UK. Personally, I would not wear anything that you wouldn't mind getting covered in food. Spills happen, sometimes they are accidental, sometimes not. But both occasions have been really good fun.

People rarely showed up in costume, but it did happen.

Unless you pack in your own cutlery (and why would you, you'd only be made a mockery of) you eat with your hands.
The environment is filthy and loud. Don't wear anything you care about.

Wench: There were no utensils in medieval times, hence there are no utensils AT Medieval Times. Would you like a refill on that Pepsi?
Steven: There were no utensils but there was Pepsi?
Wench: Dude, I got a lot of tables.

I'd think if one did kilt up, the staff would certainly have some fun with it.

I wore a kilt to the one in Myrtle Beach a couple of years ago. It was pretty much a non-event. Some of the staff did comment when we went in, and I met a lady and her husband who were of Scottish ancestry and actually recognized the Macneil of Barra tartan I was wearing. Other than that the menu was pretty limited, but we enjoyed it.

1. There is no menu. You eat what they serve.
2. Horses stink. No matter what.
3. I wore my kilt in Maryland. One of the "Knights" wanted a picture with me.
4. Souvenirs are expensive. So get the mug with the twirly lights.
5. Go and have fun. you can really get into it if you want to.
6. The closer to the ring the better. The knights flirt with your wife.
I have been twice. Once in Florida and once in Maryland. We are on the verge of a return engagement for my grandson's birthday. I will wear the kilt. A Poly, but I will wear it. Dress up! Have a ball. Prices are down right now due to the economy.

The Shriners in Denver have a Medieval Feast every year as a fund raiser. Half the people attending wear their kilts- both great and modern. I doubt much of anyone will know the difference, and if they do, they'll appreciate that you at least made the effort, and will think no less of you. I'd say do it.

***EDIT*** Just read the thread a little more closely. Is a Medieval Times dinner a dinner at a restaurant? If so... then disregard my advice...
