My reply was about the same: on a younger guy, fer sure...on fifty-somethin' me, not really.

Youth and sexy-stylish jackets are for the young.

I tried that same jacket on today at H&M and I can confirm that your daughters eye is quite sharp. This one is also made of cotton but it has hook and eye closures instead of the zipper on the first one:

All I'm saying is WHEN you get this, you MUST post a picture!!
Oh yes EB and Spartan Tartan, oh yes

But NO!!! I certainly can't justify it in my budget... and I'm working on being a respectable looking PhD student to prepare myself for being a professor I should be wearing more tweed... but these jackets are just, so

I'm sure the zipper could be replaced with a hook and eye closure like the H&M jacket I posted above. But regardless, they're not a formal jacket anyway, given that both jackets are made from cotton?

Are you baiting me, young sir?

Long ago, already, one of my students complained in a course evaluation regarding my "tendency to wear provocative t-shirts" ... but only ever that one. And thus far no one to my knowledge has complained about my kilts (even the leather one). "Respectable looking" does not really count for much in academia.

    Just get the jacket already.

I would never bait you! Unless it was going to lead to a good discussion

What I meant was that the un-respectable side of my wardrobe is well stocked and I'm working on having more clothes to look proper in. My budget is limited so I need to be strategic with my purchases. While there might be a relaxed dress code in academia, there are still situations where it doesn't hurt to dress up a bit. I think this is especially true as a grad student or young scholar. Judging by what some of my profs wear, this becomes less important once one has tenure

Regardless, I don't normally wear kilts to school. Although if you can convince me that wearing a black parade jacket and kilt will help me defend my dissertation, I'll buy one right now!

In all seriousness, I would buy one of these jacket if I found it for the right price. I've been keeping my eye out for a used one...

Great minds think alike and fools seldom disagree...

I found this picture on our sponsor Skilt's site. It is the same jacket as in the OP but with white details instead of grey.

That thing is loud enough to need a volume knob!

Not my cup o' tea, but some guys can pull it off.
