I only meant to point out that even the Imperial Stormtroopers in Star Wars, like British regulars, are mostly just ordinary guys trying to do their jobs. In fact, I believe we have at least one "Imperial Stormtrooper" on the forums.

I'm not disagreeing at all with your defense of Tories and redcoats. I have some ancestors who served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and some who I suspect were, if not active Tories, at least had loyalist sympathies. Many of them migrated north across the St. Lawrence after the war.

I'm sorry, but as a geek I'm compelled to point out that the Stormtroopers in Star Wars are genetically enhanced clones bred for combat and obedience, not conscripts.

Er, by conscripts do you mean recruits? I believe the British Army was a professional fighting force during the troubles with the North American colonies. It was the Royal Navy that had to fill its ranks by other than voluntary means.

As for Stormtroopers, Wookieepedia indicates that they were divided between clones and non-clone recruits during the original trilogy era. Wasn't Kyle Katarn a Stormtrooper? I seem to recall Han Solo being one as well, but Wookieepedia says he was in the Imperial Starfleet.
