CmCG, I agree with your instincts. And I agree with everybody else about the zipper. I believe they make that jacket in a wide variety of cool color combinations, some of which are pretty tempting.

But I think the velvet one might be a keeper. You may have to hem it, or you may have to deal with a collar that doesn't allow much room for neckwear, but if you can get it for less than $150 US, you ought to sell some blood and jump on it.



By the way, if you are small enough, you may want to check out the Korean made ( and marketed) velvet blazers on eBay that are cut like an Argyll. Their XL is about the size of a North American medium. Here is a good example, but in a tiny size:

NB, they come in a nice red, too. I have seen this jacket in person and I think it could work with a kilt if it would fit, but of course it would be nice to trick it out with square buttons, etc... The length is much closer to a kilt jacket than to a standard US- European blazer.
