    Smile Meerschaum pipe

    Hey guys,

Odd question but does anyone know where I can get a custom (portrait or bust) meerschaum pipe for under $200?

Last time I checked on meerschaum it was illegal to export in raw form out of Turkey. If you are wanting to get one carved to your request it might be difficult.

Are you wanting to commission a piece? If so, you'll have to hop on a plane to Turkey and find Yanik or Mehmet, but you aren't going to get it for under $200 or for that matter under $2,000. Most on-hand stock designs for any carver you would want to undertake the job (so the portrait doesn't wind out looking like the Staypuff Marshmallow Man) starts (for Yanik) at about $150 for a standard lattice billiard with the figurals and portraits going for between $300-1300 (Vikings, Indian chiefs, Gauls). The cost associated with a custom piece is daunting (and I checked on it about 10 years ago). YIKES!
If you just want a nice carved meerschaum they can be had in almost any design/subject you wish. My home tobacco store has a few good pieces (http://gatlinburlier.com/), you can check with them. Another good source used to be Iwan Ries in Chicago, I can't remember though if they have them on their website or if they only display and sell in the store itself.

Do you want a custm of you or just a custom/non-factory pipe? If you just want custom, I found a link that is below $200. But, if I need to keep looking if you want your face on the pipe.

    Edit--try this link. Not $200, but close...http://www.moonflower-starfire.com/s...ct/748-9213637

Not to take it to far off the track, but do you use the system or the normal draw Peterson?

Actually I had found one place that is in Turkey and ships to the US and their commissioned portrait peices went for $400. I just threw the $200 out there to see what kind of deals folks had.
