Kilt belt in trade for buckles!

I have a buddy who is a blacksmith. He and I worked out a deal- 3 hand forged belt buckles for a kilt belt. Haven't gotten the buckles yet, but here's the belt I made for him:

It's 2.5 inches wide, with a 1.5 inch belt weaving in and out of slots to take the place of a buckle. No hardware needed!



I used an antler tine to help sinch the belt a little tighter.



I was really pleased with how it came out. My friend will be wearing it with his kilt in the St. Paddy's Day parade this weekend, so I'll get some pictures of it in use and post them on Monday.

Not to tease too much... but I just finished my own kilt belt (it's a red cinch belt with tooled knotwork) and am making a belt for my wife to wear with her Renaissance dress. I'll post pictures soon.

It's the little details. I like borders like that. One thing that always bugs me is how little attention people pay to the belt keeper. I like mine to look like they're really a part of the belt! The keeper I made for my on belt is as decorative as the belt itself! Again, I'll take and post pictures this afternoon. Didn't even think to take pics of the keeper!

I'll do that this afternoon, but I'll give you a more detailed explanation here:

You'll notice that the smaller strap weaves in and out of slits cut into the belt. Those slits are on both ends. The two ends overlap, and the smaller strap weaves in and out through both. It's a tight fit, and holds the whole thing together. (Did that description make any sense at all?!?! )

This is the belt keeper I mentioned before. The smaller strap goes into this, and it makes the strap stay in place.
