    Edinburgh sells the Gathering

Saw this - http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/ne...-on.6732273.jp - today and thought it might be of interest to any members here who were hoping to visit another Gathering anytime in the future.

Never know...might be a good thing.

Probably good if the Gathering was a "moveable feast" and went to a different city every year...that'd give the tourists more of an excuse to attend....see Scotland one city at a time.

Lots of the people that I know who travel a lot have that "been there, done that" mindset and once they've marked a destination off on their list, they aren't inclined to want to return.

I hope that Stirling does not engage the services of the previous company!

Stirling does not have the wealth of hotels etc to accommodate tourists that Edinburgh does but travelling in from there is still relatively easy.

I am sure the ratepayers of Edinburgh will wonder why it was sold so cheap given the £8.8 Million that went into the local economy as a result of the last one though. It only helps to confirm my already poor view of their council's performance in the past.

It does seem like a bargain, though the low price obtained by the liquidators perhaps reflects the cynicism here in Scotland that the event might never be held again.
The price obtained will not go any significant way towards paying the small businesses and the performers who were left out of pocket by the organisers.
