no belt loops on kilt--what to do?

Is this an issue because the pleats are independent from each other or is it the fabric actually stretching? If the pleats are sewn together at the top, similar to utilikilts, does the same thing happen?

The issue is that the belt is cinched to fit the waist of the wearer and it's pulling the kilt out of the position to which it had been made to fit because the belt is through the loops. It is also putting too much pressure on the bottom of the loops and actually pulling the fabric up at those spots 'pooching' the fabric out at the bottom as it were.

If the belt were worn overtop of the kilt and not through the loops, you wouldn't see the issue that Barb has pointed out.

Beelts loops are not a traditional part of a kilt. In addition, a pipers kilt should have only ONE waist belt on each side; two in total, while a Dancer's kilt has the afrementioned two, plus and additional belt and buckle on the Upper apron, right below the right side waist belt and buckle.

Unfortunately, a great number of pipesr wear dancers kilts, and don't even know it.

As proven in another thread, while dancers are required by dress code to have three straps/buckles, a kilt HAVING three straps/buckles doesn't automatically make the kilt a dancer's kilt.

And logically, for us neutrals the only safe compromise is to use one loop for the belt and the other for the sporran.

When I first became a Kilted Gent I was Informed that the loops were there to help you hang it up after you took it off. Our Pipe Sergent some 20 years ago would yell at any piper who used them for there belt.

It's my understanding that belt loops are a modern thing. They're not necessary as belts are ornamental only. Still, if you've belt loops and don't put the belt through them, you run the risk of good-intentioned people telling you that your belt is out of their loops.

My kilt, supplied by a long-established kiltmaker in Aberdeen, has loops - but I am seriously considering removing them because it is a faff to put anything through them. Anything I should be aware of before attempting this?

I wore my kilt out on Friday night and did not use the belt loops. I was worried that my sporran strap would slip. Never did. The loops are coming off.
