Aye, the Buchanan tartan is quite similar to the MacMillan Ancient I'm wearing. Basically there's an extra white stripe in the Buchanan I believe.

OY! Attack of the color-blindness, again! Sorry for the confusion, but it's a handsome tartan, regardless.

Thanks for that article, Ron. My parents, wife and I had a double date on Friday to the Denver Brass Band's annual Celtic Experience performance. The bands conductor conducted in a kilt. My dad noticed that the pleats were green, but when they moved, they turned blue, and he asked me about that at the intermission. I started telling him about the different methods of pleating, the different styles, etc. He has worn a kilt from time to time for my entire life, but had never really examined it. He had no idea just what an art form it really is. This article is just the thing for me to send to him! Along, of course, with the link to Cathy's website!

I like it quite a bit. I just went to the Lochcarron of Scotland site and checked - http://lochcarron.com/tartanstrome/macmillan_old.html - it appears I mispoke on the designation. They call this the "MacMillan Old Modern" tartan (16oz Strome).
Ah well -- memory is the second thing to go (can't remember what the first is).
Rob
P.S. But then I went to the Clan MacMillan site in Scotland and found that the tartan I wear is the "Ancient MacMillan in Modern colours"...
