We used to treat the brogues with a hot iron to take off the top surface, then Kiwi polish left overnight. Then its the soft cloth and warm water alternating with Polish until you get the shine.

With the Highland brogues that are issued to the jocks you have to start by burning them down i.e with a good quality polish layer the shoe/boot up, get your fingers into the polish and rub it into the leather, but keep it smooth.

Then after a while the polish will dry then you can begin step two first get a candle a metal spoon oh and a good quality jewelers cloth

OK light the candle use the spoon to take out some polish from the tin(just as if you where going to eat it) then run the spoon over the candle till polish melts, now the tricky bit put the spoon onto the leather and at the same time tilt it so the hot polish runs onto the shoe leather and is then rubbed into the leather by the hot spoon, This will remove the dimples from the leather and build up a layer of polish repeat till all dimples are no more,

If you really want to be a pedant you could also pick out all the holes of the pattern on the toe and sides of the brogue

Now at this point i would use bees wax in the same way as above but just a thin layer and the polish over it with the cloth e.g wrap the cloth around two or three of you fingers dab it into the polish wet the polish and cloth and the in a circular movement rub onto the leather, water is the main thing here lots and lots of water, till you get a mirror shine

One thing to note don't put too much polish on at a time build up the layers it's also best if the shoes/boots have been used for a while so they are creased that way the polish wont crack off as easily This whole process will take hours

OR.............. if thats just too much for you Morello is a liquid polish just paint it on and hey presto!

RSV...I was just being jealous. I DO intend to get myself a pair like this someday...but I'm not quite up to putting together my formal rig just yet. The Brown Allen Edmonds shoes are first on the spending priority right now...as they will serve me for kilt wear, and more importantly, I will be wearing them to work regularly. I was curious as to whether they were a one time grab or if you purchased them from somebody who had them in multiple sizes.

To share some shiny shoe pics...here's my standard brogues and my chukkas that I wear with my Army Class A and Class B uniform.

They're the issue brogues worn with mess dress. SCOTS officers also wear the lace up type as well with barrack dress etc.

I have a pair of the issued lace up brogues...no where near that bulled up yet, but a work in progress.

Absolutely Love them. Also a wonderful job on the shine. I miss the days of spending time on my boot shine to show I was a bit better than the other guy. I used to have a pair of jungles you could see color reflections in.
