The singing starts in Flesher's.

And so it went on... Havin' a bit of a laugh. We ended the night at the Waverley which is round the corner from Ferintosh. We were all a bit 'tired' by the end of the evening.

Saturday Night was the main thrust of the weekend with the Burns Supper, held in the Globe Inn. The Globe is a coaching Inn that dates back to 1610 and was a Favorite of the Great Scottish Bard. The dinner was to be held in the Dining Room where Burns himself would have eaten, supped and recited his own work.

The assembled group outside Ferintosh before the short walk into town.

Me, Paul, Dave, Murray, Alan, Mike, Robertson.

Emma, Buffy, Çağman and Laura

Mmmmmmm Shoooooooes...

In the centre of town.

In the Globe snug bar.

The dinner opened with a welcome from Robertson and a toast to the Globe by Emma.

Emma also explained the Friendship Quaich which was to be passed from person to person before each recitation. It all set the scene beautifully and got all in the right fettle for the evening to come.

Dave opened the entertainments with "Scotch Drink"

Followed by Mike with "No Churchman am I"

and Alan gave us "A Bottle and a Friend"

The first course. Cock-a-leekie Soup.

The Haggis was then piped in...

And Paul delivered an excellent address and toast.

Laura gave us "Red Rose" and "Wandering Willie"

Çağman gave us "Scots Wha hae" and Emma gave us "Willie Wastle"

We then ate the Haggis and bashit neeps, champit tatties and whisky cream sauce. Made in the manner of a haggis cottage pie it was delishhh and I've never seen it done that way before.

Great company, great conversation.

Dave then gave the "Toast to the Lassies" by means of a self penned poem in Burns rhyming style. Clever if not a bit cheeky considering our location.

Some Bloke then butted in with a selection of poems by a Scottish contemporary poet called Rab Wilson. (tshhhk! The fool couldn't even get the poet right.)

Buffy (Emma's sister) gave us a beautifully sung rendition of the song "Caledonia".
We then had Raspberry Chranachan (forgot the photo, sorry) before Emma gave a great "Reply Frae the Lassies".

Jane, The Globe Manageress came in and gave a reply on behlaf of the Howff. One of the best and funniest after dinner speeches I've heard in many years.

After coffee, cheese and biscuits Robertson then began to draw proceedings to a close with an exciting Tam O Shanter

As we left there was just time to thank Jane for a crackin' spread and snap a quick piccie of her for my mate Shane in Aus. who remembers her from last year with great fondness.
Cheers all. Fantastic weekend and I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Excellent photos John, its magnificent to see such comprehensive coverage of your weekend trip to Dumfries. It was a pleasure to be able to meet up with you and Cagman on the Friday evening.
