It's OK, Zardoz, I "got it" the first time around
And had pretty much the same thought about the Bahamas vs. NYC! No offense to our New Yawkers, but weigh the one against the other and . . . sign me up for the beach. The entire affair sounds either poorly handled or poorly reported (probably both) but I'm also with the "he owes nobody nothing" crew.
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].

I say, if they want Sean Connery so badly then they ought to move the entire event to the Bahamas! I, for one, would be MUCH more inclined to make the trip and attend in the Bahamas as well. Just another angle on the issue

Jack Bauer's probably gonna be there. As for New York. I Love New York and I'd still rather be in the Bahamas!!!

Rocking the boat
Now this is going to sound unlikely but I'm a geek an I gotta be me.
When I think of Scotland the first name that comes to mind is James Doohan
Scotty from ST:TOS.

We went through that with Mel Gibson where I said he was from the U.S. The role makes people think of Scotland regardless of the actor's origin.

Just a thought...
The article (linked to in post #1) states that Mr Connery is the unofficial chairman of the event.
Why isn't Hammish the "official" chairman?
Seriously.
