    OK, so I'm easily amused.

Last week, I placed an order for a sporran (seen here) from What Price Glory. I wanted something very plain, and brown for ultra casual wear, and this fit the bill, for me.

Now here is where it gets interesting...WPG is located in Salinas California, so I expected the sporran to arrive at my home within a couple of days, but when I received the package tracking information, I noticed that the sporrran was picked up on Friday in Dubai - United Arab Emirates.

I watched it over the weekend travel to Leipzig, Germany on Saturday, and to Brussels, Belgium on Sunday, and it arrived in Paris, France this morning. I wonder where it will go next? And, I'm a little jealous that my new sporran will have seen more of Europe than I have.

The other thing that amazes me is how this sporran can be shipped to me for only $9.00 US. On another recent thread, there was talk of 70GBP to ship a sporran from the UK to Austrailia.

So, like I said, I am easily amused.

Amazing how they do that, isn't it? I have been very pleased with my kit from WPG. I have hose, hose tops, tam, heavy kilt, that same sporran. Very good things. You are right - the shipping is amazingly affordable.

I haven't ordered anything from overseas in a long time...well, to clarify, I haven't ordered from an overseas retailer for a long time. I get a lot of stuff shipped from Asia but puchased from a US company. Some countries such as Singapore and Taiwan aren't charged the same duties as the UK and much of Europe. Why? Because. I honestly can't fathom why we charge a small fortune to ship from the UK, but stuff can be sent from Asia with little to no added cost.

Also, shipping costs do vary from location to location. When I was in the navy I shipped two swords home from Dubai(a no-no, I know), and it cost less than it did to ship two shirts from San Diego to Nebraska for my Dad's birthday. A friend of mine shipped a hefty brass Buddha home to San Diego from Singapore for about 12 dollars, which surprised the heck out of us. Ironically, after we got back he opened the box and noticed a tag on the bottom that read "Hecho en Tijuana, BC, Mexico," which means the ten dollars he paid for it was more than the cost to make it and ship it to Singapore, and the twenty two dollars he spent to buy it and ship it home was more than it would have cost to drive to TJ, buy it, have a few beers and drive back. I quit thinking about this stuff and just look for the bargains. It gives me headaches.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

I totally understand the amusement of watching shipping info when you order something. For me the fun joy is in watching when a package makes it to my city. For some reason packages always arrive at one sort facility, then shipped an hour north of me to another, then back to the distribution center that is maybe fifteen miles from the original sort facility.

Please let us know how the thing is when it gets there finally ;)

I'm really interested in a simple sporran like this. Looks nice in the picture!

Assuming they haven't changed much over the years, here is a pretty thorough review of the one we purchased in '08.

I was afraid of the belt length being too short. I ordered the 42" as that was all that was in stock at the time. I also ordered dark brown belt and matching sporran hangers (from another vendor) to replace the belt strap, so I should be OK.

Anyway, from the review, it sounds like this will be perfect for a knock-around causal day sporran. I'll post a review of it when it arrives too.

Totally agree. I'll see my packages arrive at the location mere moments from my place and still take a day and a half or more to actually arrive.

Jerry Lee of WPG has all his stuff made in Dubai UAE. He used to keep a lot of stuff at his place in Salinas but with the stupidity and raising costs in this state he has been packing it all up and shipping it back to Dubai and having them hold and ship everything from there.

Jerry is a good guy and easy to deal with.
