I know your pain, both on the discomfort of wool kilt hose in the summer, and the damned weight gain thing. Join a good martial arts class. I dropped from 420 four years to 300 now, and am still going down. Not to mention that if anyone tried to mug me, they're really going to have to work for it! So- another alternative to the heavy wool hose are from Sock Dreams- http://www.sockdreams.com/products/s...rib-knee-highs They haven't got a good turnover, so you would need a pair of Big Mikey's hose toppers or traditional garter ties, but they look really nice and are nice and cool! And they have lots of stretch for those of us with huge calves!

You know....my box of assorted kilt hose I never wear is actually because they are too tight in the calf for me. Most of the pairs are like the WB Socks you see all over eBay and they end up being more like a midievil punishment if I wear them, so they go into the box and get dolled out from time to time to those in quick need.
THESE hose, however, stretch nicely to fit my 18.5 inch calves without feeling like a vice. Anyway, I just ordered a couple more from JHiggins. It'll be interesting to try them out in the summer heat here in Sacramento!

I have the same in charcoal gray and love them. They are usually found under the name "pipers hose" I think. Here I am wearing them in the heat of the Kentucky summer judging a pipe band competition.

My own weight loss plan is along those lines. Diet, and two karate classes a week. I've been at the diet a month, taken my belts in two inches. Not sure if it's me losing weight or the belt stretching, but encouraging nevertheless.

The karate I've been at considerably longer
