Source of, "arrayed in a most warlike manner"?

I've seen this quote in reference to what I think is 18th century Highlanders, "arrayed in a most warlike manner". Usually it's merely mentioned but I'm having trouble locating the original source. Anyone know?

Though I could have missed it, I don't think so. I have that slim book and it does have a sub heading using that quote, but it does not document it. One of the shortcomings of the Osprey Books is that while they will usually document the speaker of the source they rarely will identify where that item was found. So thank you for the attempt, but I can't find it there.

I don't know how complete or wide-ranging their scanning is, but Google Books only shows that one volume, The border reivers, as a source:

I assume you are looking for the original source document, but if it's not footnoted or referenced to the specific work in the bibliography you're in for a long search...

Yes I saw that too though it certainly doesn't fit the bill in which it is usually used. Though it's interesting reading nonetheless!
