Las Vegas Games 2011
I spent Friday and Saturday in Vegas with the sisters... here we all are on Fremont Street

On Friday night the Los Angeles Scottish (LA Scots) played in front of Hennessey's

a final tune-up of the drones

then a march down Fremont Street

and under the enormous curved video screen that spans the street

For those who haven't been there, Fremont Street on a Friday night is quite a spectacle: hordes of tourists, a big outdoor party with Yards of Ale (public drinking is legal, as is just about everything else), the video screen going, bands playing on stages here and there, celebrity impersonators all around, etc etc.
The next day the weather was glorious at the Games, held in a park several miles northeast of Las Vegas. Snow was still to be seen on the mountains.
Here a lad competes in solo piping in the morning

and dancers danced for a watchful judge

The two Grade One bands in attendance, the LA Scots and Simon Fraser University, formed up for the opening ceremonies

and then the march past commenced. Here's the Nevada State tartan and Flower of Scotland

In the afternoon the pipe band competition began.
Here's Desert Skye in the Nevada State tartan

the Irish Pipers of San Francisco

Glendora High School

and finally the Grade One bands, LA Scots

and SFU in their new bespoke tartan kilts

Early Saturday evening the Massed Bands from the Games marched down Fremont Street

Super pics.
Was that one of your LA Scots pipe band guys doing the judging for the solo piping, or just a co-incidence that the judge was wearing the same tartan as the band?

Wonderful photographs! Thanks for posting them. My favorite, of course, was the one of you with your three good-looking sisters. Pulchritude must run in the family genes. :-)
Looks like everybody was having a great time. Wish I could have been there. Maybe next year.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Some year, some way, I'm gonna make it over there for the LV Games. Thanks for the enticing pics in the meantime.

Fantastic.
Makes what they did in Caithness look like nothing. Err come to think of it, there was nothing happening in Caithness.
