A kilt pin for my son

My 5-year-old son has been showing a lot more interest in wearing his kilt lately, probably due to me wearing mine more often (makes a man's heart proud, that). He even wore it to his sister's guitar lesson today.

He hasn't had a kilt pin of his own, so I decided it was probably time to make him one. He "helped" the whole time I was in the shop making it, and specifically requested the lion rampant as a design. It's made out of a scrap piece of oak flooring I found in my shop (left by the previous owner from when he built the house in 1941), so it's a wee bit of home he can always carry with him.

That's really pretty. Did you burn the image into the wood, or paint it on with stain?

It's burned in. I like the working-without-a-net feel of burning small details into a mostly-finished piece.

What a beautiful thing and the home from home slant is excellent. I Like that a lot.
