Wonderful pictures! Thank you, especially for the one of Ambleside. I've not been there (yet) but I'm told my father was born above the butcher shop at the crossroads in the centre of town.

I live just a few miles from a state prison, and it looks nothing at all like the one you photographed. I wish the architects who drew the one near me had seen the one near you!

Thanks for the photojourney. I always enjoy your travels.

Kind of like Downunder Kilt said - next best thing to being there! Thanks for posting all the wonderful photos. I got wanderlust just looking at them. Jedburgh Castle is likely the only one I could get into.

I fired up Google Earth just to put Jedburgh in geographical context. You were close to Selkirk! If I had known that, I would have asked you to ask D.C. if I'm ever going to see the tartan he is weaving for me. ;-)
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

As usual, you have given us another nice set of photos, Alex. Looks like you and Hayat had a busy holiday.

Thanks so much for posting those!

They bring back nice memories of a holiday my wife and I took in the 1980s when we visited Jedburgh and the Roman Wall.

Unfortunately we haven't visited the Lake District. It's on our "to do list" !!

    Thanks again! Richard

    Alex,

Great photos. Thanks. It appears, though, that you left out the "rough night at the pub" narrative:

Great pictures and a helpful travelogue as usual, Alex. And it seems Hayat enjoyed it, which is important.
