This is one of the many "navy tartans" I ran across when I was thinking of my Navy kilt. I like it, but decided for the Edzell as that seems to be more accepted as the Navy tartan. I actually like that it was designed "for those in peril at sea" and would enjoyed a kilt in this tartan potentially some day. I like that it has purple too--kind of a Joint service tartan, so to speak.
Since there really is NOT an officially recognized Navy tartan, one could wear this as their Navy tartan just as much as anyone else might choose Edzell. That said, I'd bet you would need a custom run of the material to make a kilt.
Edit/note: my Edzell is a sportkilt--which incidentally I do NOT like--and they only offer Edzell. So when I really get my Navy kilt, I may actually still get this one you have here. I'm thinking of a 5-yd semi-trad from Rocky. I just need to save my pennies.
