G'day from Gippsland, Australia. Need some help
Hello everyone. I am new to this site and was wondering if you'd be able to help me.
I am trying to find out what clan my family belongs to so I may get the right tartan, particularly for my bagpipes (want to have the family colours for my wedding)
My last name is Center. Any help would be GREAT appreciated.

Hello Kirstie,
Firstly, welcome to XMarks from the other side of the world in Norfolk, England.
Secondly, not every surname has a clan associated with it. I have a quite extensive database of surnames and can find no entry for Center, or Centre, or starting with an S, or starting with a K, or starting with a G, or second letter A or I or Y, or Mac, or M', or O'.
There is one sole entry and that is:
Enterkin, a sept of or associated with Clan Galloway
Are there not other surnames that you could try? If you know that you have Scottish heritage, why not investigate a regional tartan?
I am sorry if this all sounds a bit negative. Why not go with generic or universal tartans until such time as you have established a connection or not?
Regards
Chas

Thanks Chas,
Both for the welcome and the information.
I was told my clan was Gordon by my grand father but he was also getting on in age and I believe he may have mixed this up with his friends as that is what he was.
I have tried (without much luck) to find out but research has been inconclusive. But thank you, I shall keep trying

Welcome from California
According to this site
http://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/center
the name Center came to England from France after 1066. Do you have some family history suggesting they migrated to Ireland or Scotland?

Welcome
Welcome from soggy (today) Roseville, California!
Perhaps you could check the other side of your family? The general consensus is that failing short on the immediate paternal side, look for the nearest blood relative on either side.
Best of luck!

A warm Scottish welcome from middle England.
Sometimes a surname from the past appears as a middle name in the family tree somewhere. In my case it happens on both sides of the family. Worth a check.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Hi from Adelaide! I like the Stimsons Python in your avatar, is it yours? I have a lovely Murray Darling Carpet Python.
Good luck in your search.
