Tornados in the Southeast US
I hope our forum friends in Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia have survived yesterdays storms. It was a terrifying day to say the least. Several places were hit with tornados early in the morning and again in the evening. If anyone has any news to share, please do so.

It's been crazy with all the storms. Texas has been happy to have a break the past couple of days (we've been fortunate in my town to not have any problems, although we could sure use more rain).
Best wishes to everyone.

I need to add Arkansas and Virginia to my list of states. Last I read, 202 people in these six states have lost their lives as a result of these storms.

Cynthia, you can have the rain we've been getting. I think today's the first day in two weeks that we've had less than a 50% chance of rain. (There's a 30% chance of scattered showers this evening.) This is the wettest April on record for the area (13+ inches).
So far - touch wood - my place is dry on the inside, but there are many roads in town that are closed due to flooding and many homeowners are seeing groundwater seepage (and occasional sewer backups). The experts are hoping that the Ohio River has crested around here, but there's still rain upstream from us that will be affecting things for a few more days.
Other communities around us are even worse off, and the water levels there are still rising. (I heard today that Rough River Lake - about 1 hour SSW - is going to be cresting at 533 ft - 8 ft above flood stage.)
Thoughts and prayers for everyone affected by the rash of damaging, killer storms.
John

There've been a lot of bad wildfires west of my area... it's not even summer yet.
Regardless, I hope the bad storms and flooding stop, so people can try to get their lives back on track. Lots of extreme weather stuff out there on either end of the spectrum. It's just such a shame

I haven't had rain at my house since late 2010. 6 months ago. At this point, I'd be willing to risk tornadoes and flooding just to get some rain. It beats the heck out of wildfires.

My family in Birmingham is fine and in the previous weeks storms my sister left work 2 hours before one destroyed her place of employment, but like I told her she is ok so I'm happy.

It's been a crazy couple of years...
freakish winters (snow in the south, etc), and a sudden bunch of tornadoes this month.
Our neighborhood in North Carolina (Fayetteville) got blasted by a tornado about 10 days ago. My property manager told my wife that he had about 6 properties in the neighborhood and that our house is the only one still liveable...the rest were all destroyed or severely damaged. My wife and I weren't quite sure how to feel about that. The house has been draining our bank account it seems ($10K loss last year as a rental property; three months rented now with a new tenant and we haven't seen a penny yet...every dollar earned has been going to repairs). Now we have more damage and more repairs. We, quite frankly, would have been rather happy for a total loss and insurance payout. But on the humanitarian side of the coin, we are thankful that our tenants are safe and still have a roof over their heads.
Hope that all the members of the forum dealing with the results of this most recent storm are safe and well.

Had some bad weather here in Mississippi. I was lucky, most went both noth and south of me. Have a daughter at MS State in Starkville that lost power due to TVA taking a hit. Power came back on some time in the early morning. She called and said it got a little scary last night but no damage at her house. Have family in Birmingham and Huntsville Al that experienced realy bad weather. Got word this morning that all was fine. Hope anyone with family in the path of the storm gets the same good news I got.
