Brown Brogues
This eBay vendor sends me an e-flyer every month. I noticed that he has these brown brogues on Buy It Now. Price is under £50 delivered to the States.
Admittedly, probably not the best quality in the world. But you are not going to wear them all day, every day. For a couple of hours every month, they will probably last a lifetime. If you are interested in matching up leathers, these could be an answer.

I have a similar pair from a different vendor that I got for about the same price. Mine are lighter colored than most brown shoes, and definitely more than my other brown kit, but still look good and should darken up with age and polishings. I agree with you that they are good enough to wear for the occasional event, especially the semi-dress/semi-casual events, and comfortable enough to wear for more than a couple hours on end, but probably not the whole day or with a lot of walking, at lest until they are broken in well.
I have purchased several items from this particular vendor and never been disappointed with what I got for the money.
