Can I "officially" where the tartan
New here on XMarks and would like to learn more.
I am a Quinn and can trace my paternal line back to Conn of the Hundred Battles and have learned that he had a family branch that went to Scotland, linking directly into a few Clans, including MacQueen). What is the consensus on me wearing the MacQueen tartan?
Regards from,
Not really as old as my handle, Seanmadra.

Well, for what it's worth, it's OK with me. There are plenty of folks wearing tartans based on more tenuous linkage than that. So if you like the MacQueen tartan , go ahead!
I think if I were a desendant of the Conn Cétchathach I'd look at the Tara tartan as well.
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

There are no kilt police. Wear the tartan(s) you prefer and wear it/them with pride.

I copied this here from my response to your other post.
I am in a somewhat similar situation. There were precursors to the name McElmurry in Lewis, Harris, Ulster and the Isle of Mann. I will likely never be able to trace my McElmurrys back to their original lands. I will probably join Clan Morrison and wear their tartan and perhaps wear Ulster in recognition of my Scots-Irish ancestors and the possibility McElmurry originated in Ulster.
So, I have decided it is appropriate for me to recognize both my Scottish and Ulster heritage and that the two are not incompatible. You have to decide what makes sense for you.

Aye, I agree with these gentlemen. Wear what you like, officially or otherwise.
Once you strap a kilt on, it's always official.
Welcome to xmarks.

One more thing. If you go to the Tartan Ferret and enter Quinn under surname, one of the tartans returned is McQueen. The STA search will generally not give you a match unless there is some basis for it. While it is obviously not a true genealogical search, it is much better than most sites that shoehorn you into a clan just so they can sell you a kilt.

Kilt
Please do not forget that even though there are no "kilt police" and one may legally wear any tartan chosen, wearing another family's tartan is often frowned upon, particularly by those living in Scotland or of direct Scottish descent. It is one of those things that one simply does not do.

I hereby authorize you to wear the MacQueen, as long as you take pictures and post them here.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

For what it's worth, I strongly suspect the STA search is based on Philip D. Smith's Tartan For Me!, with which I have a few quibbles.
