Brass Cantle Hunting Sporran?
I found this recently:
http://www.licensetokilt.com/Highlan...g_Sporran.html
I've been looking at getting a dress hunting sporran. Have not bought it yet.
This one is sharp looking, made by L&M (so well-made), and would stand-out some... not being silver.
Would this be appropriate to wear with a black barathea/silver-button Argyle w waistcoat?
I'm interested in your opinions. thanks.

There is no denying that it look very nice and I would certainly wear it. Having said that, I think the price is too high, even with the discount.

I'm forced to disagree with Chas, It's a good deal on L&M.
That said, the black and brass doesn't really work for me here. I'd either go ALL black leather or black and chrome.

I agree with Scott on both points here.

What can I say? I am seeing this from a UK perspective and never realised that L&Ms were so expensive.

Yes, it is a good deal for the L&M sporran in question. I own many sporrans from L&M and can certainly testify to their hard wearing, versatility, and general good looks. They are definitely well made sporrans - no question. I would contact the seller to see if they could have it made in brown leather, rather than the black. I think the brass lattice cantle would look far better with a brown sporran body, versus the black.
I like black with silver accessories as far as sporrans and belt buckles go. I am quite confident that L&M Highland Outfitters can do this, as I have had several custom sporrans made for me via the company I do business with, that offers the unique L&M line. However, you may lose the discount going that route, so ultimately, it's up to you mate. Good luck!
P.S. - I own the brown with brass studs (no cantle - MSRP is $269 US) Hunting style sporran by L&M and love it dearly!
Cheers,

They sure can be. My bespoke hair sporran for evening attire and formal events was around $700 US, but again, it was bespoke, exact to my details, and made with the highest quality of materials...the attention to detail is quite remarkable. I would recommend L&M to anyone.

I own two of those sporrans - one black with chrome, and one brown with brass. I agree with the others who've said that the brass looks better with brown. I only wear the black/chrome one with the black barathea argyle with silver buttons, but that's just my preference.
Here's the black one:
And the brown one:
Argh! I can't figure out why the picture doesn't link.

Superb looking sporrans mate (I need to get my hands on the brown version with the brass cantle!), and I completely agree with you. There is a reason why many pipe bands and solo pipers alike, really are fond of the black hunting sporran with silver cantle by L&M - it looks great with your standard black barathea Argyll jacket and waistcoat.
Your attire is also spot on - I took notice of the Mackintosh tartan and the motto you have on your signature...slainte to that mate...here's to the Clan Chattan Confederation!
Thanks for sharing,

I have read in a couple threads here that a brass cantled sporran is OK for evening wear (after 6PM) with a 4 in hand tie (as demonstrated by McMan in post #8 above), but with a bow tie, only a silver cantle (yes, pewter is a silver colored metal) is suitable.
Can't comment on the price, but there are lots of options in the $250-$30 range.
