Kilt Article Found On The Web

Some people will never understand the pleasure of wearing a kilt. Although I think that the author of that article over-stepped his bounds, when he equated wearing a kilt with being gay. I'm pretty sure he'd be quickly corrected if he made that statement in a kilted crowd.

Well he'd be partly right if he was at our Scottish Dance club The Gay Gordons ... we are kilted and many of us are GAY but not all of us ... there are lesbians, married women in kilts (as their husbands don't dance), straight married couples and single men. We are inclusive and reflect our society at large. It is so dangerous to assume a persons sexuality by what they wear. One of our lesbian members says she wears the kilt because its "So masculine and manly"

There is also a Biblical reference to not wear fabrics of mixed material... so poly-cotton is SO VERY SINFUL. Maybe that's why I always wear all wool kilts Ha ha ha!

I remember being told very firmly that my snake bracelet was sinful as it is part of Devil worship to create and wear images of snakes.

Apparently the Ancient Egyptions were Devil worshipers as they quite liked snakey jewellery, according to that rather wild eyed fellow.

Just because the Egyptians didn't equate snakes and evil didn't mean that several thousands of years later 'people who know better' should not reinterpret an entire civilisation and judge it by their own narrow beliefs and standards - and nothing would alter the poor souls opinion.

I'm afraid I sent him off to rail against the symbol of a rod of Asclepius on the wall of a doctor's surgery close to where I was accosted. I hoped that the obviously learned perpetrator would prove a better match than I had, but I doubted his opinion would be changed by pure argument.

I hold a Masters degree in Theology from Holy Apostles College & Seminary, and my focus was particularly moral theology.

All I can say is that if wearing the kilt is sinful, I think I must have skipped that chapter in class!

For what it's worth, I grew up going to a church that had that tone of rhetoric going on, though slightly milder, and about some other subjects. I don't recall ever hearing the wearing of kilts discussed.

There is a subtly encouraged, underlying fear of "outsiders" and outside information because hearing what they have to say might corrupt your beliefs... So any real history about the kilt or clothing would be shouted down or dismissed. Just a small insight into what might be going on with this guy's thinking and group, if he has one.

* Now that I think about it, there was nothing "subtle" about it...

So on topic... I tried contacting the guy who wrote the blog, but he never responded. He has zero interest in an exchange of ideas; only to force his own views on the rest of the world. He's what those of us in the pagan community call a hypochristian- instead conforming his views to fit the Word of God, he conforms the Word to justify his views. Pay no attention to the little man behind the curtain...

Resident protestant pastor here, checking in to concur with Father Bill (and Mr. Newsome). I've tried to find this er, um, gentleman's credentials before, but never had any luck. I especially enjoyed his explaination that the garments worn by the men in the bible were designed for men, and were therefore, manly. Everything designed since (other than pants of course), whether designed for men or not, constitutes cross-dressing, and therefore is a sin. He also has a lengthy article on the same site explaining how women that wear pants are all going straight to hell. I tried clicking on some of the other links on the site, but the filter here in our church building blocked them as "racism or hate"
