Anyway, it was found by one of the keepers whilst repairing some grouse butts last year. I have to admit shedding a modest tear at its return some 60 years later...

...It has a ram's head at the top and the "pin"(rusted away) and catch(it was broken and that's why it fell off) has been replaced and when found it was tarnished to jet black. Silver and hallmarked for 1934. Yes, heirlooms do mean something and some mean a heck of a lot!

I've quoted this from another thread about heirlooms. I am amazed by the story and blown away by the pin and would love it to feature in this thread. Hope you don't mind Jock. If you do, let me know and I'll remove this post.

I must have missed that heirloom post by Jock. This one, here on a Freedom Olive, was my father's. I can't say it was found after being lost on the moor years before, but I do have a story of my dog finding my Russel knife on the moor two years after it was lost and proudly dropping it at my feet.

Both those pins look strikingly similar. Nice and simple. I love 'em. Thanks for adding yours. I've also located a source for them in Stornoway who are selling them in silver for £35.00 (or there abouts)... Mmmmm... Need to speak to my financial controller.

Almost, if not, identical. Mine is not here in Vancouver, but I've asked at home if somebody will have a look and tell me the date stamp. Wouldn't 1934be a super coincidence, Jock? Tomorrow or the day after.

EB. Be my guest my dear chap.Have you the link handy, for the new rams head kilt pins?

TD. I seems our respective fathers had good taste!I await the hallmark enquiry with interest. "My" ram's head looks as though it has a bit more work on it than "yours" , I wonder with the more smooth look of "yours", if this is down to wear? Or, it came like that when new?

I certainly have. It occured to me while trawling that it might be an idea to pass it on to you. That way you could get a replica of that beautiful pin and not risk losing the 'original' for another 60 years.

Here you go, the folks are called Shop In Scotland and as said, they are based in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.

Edit: 28 Jul 13. Link now dead so edited out.
