I learned of something that saddened me a little. All of you looking may have noticed the hanging lanterns inside the fort. They were all made by the fort's carpenter. I bought two of them last year, and I noticed that there were none for sale this year. I sent a letter asking the fort's currator if there were going to be more- I wanted two more, because they're excellent! Turns out the man who made them died over the course of the last year. Glad I have some of his work. I don't even know his name, but I'm glad that he left his mark on the fort- it's a good legacy. May he rest in peace.

As an Easterner, it amazes me to realize that the U.S. was so active in that region so early in our history!

Hmmmmm......I seem to recognize that piper.
Looks like it was a great time. Wish we could have been there.

Yeah, the only people there who hassled me were other Ren Scots... Wish you were there, too!

Looks like a great time. I miss the reenactments from the Bay Area. While living up here is good for the spirit, they don't do much to reenact their history. Although, members of the founding families (1830's) are more than happy to recount the oral history of the area. It's done with the appropriate setting (think feed and tack store) and I am required to share my family's history of the San Francisco area in the 1830's.
Thanks for posting the photos. In today's times, it's good to see people keeping our county's history alive.
