I'll admit I do love Guinness. Always have. When at a pub or bar I very frequently order a pint. It is nostalgic for me I guess. However, my taste changes with the seasons and I find myself not drinking Guinness as often in the warmer months. I recently got hooked on Heavy Seas Black Cannon IPA, or Heavy Seas Loose Cannon, both are pretty good. I would also recommend Terrapin Rye (local Athens, Ga) or Terrapin Summer Wheat. Just for change up. Also when I'm in Texas its all Lone Star/Lone Star Light, I know its cheap but it quenches thirst and beats the Texas heat...

*face palm* As a Texan, I'm embarrassed that people think this is the best beer we have to offer.
Next time you're here, ask for a Shiner Bock! It tastes a lot better (it actually has flavor), and is excellent at beating the heat.

GaRebel211, do what Tobus says! Drink SHINER! They brew more than just the Boch, too. Here's the webby:

Primarily drink Bellhaven's Ale and the Guinness but I'll certainly have some Pacifico's either with Mexican food or to beat the heat.
...trouble is that when you're used to drinking the "heavier" stuff, those Pacifico's go down pretty damn quickly...usually down three before I reach cruising altitude and level off...it can get expensive!

Most of my wifes' family in the great state of Texas wouldn't be caught dead with a Lone Star beer in their hand. I always thought of Lone Star as a novelty beer...something that you brought back home as a souvenier from your visit.

I guess I need to clarify. First, I love Shiner and drink it very regularly, (love the bock and the blonde especially) Secondly, the only reason I drink Lone Star, is the same reason I drink Guinness, nostalgia. My best friend lives on Lake Travis outside Austin, one time while there we went on the lake grilled out with our wives and had a perfect day, we split a case of Lone Star, so everytime I drink Lone Star it reminds me of that day. Stupid I know, and I know its not great beer, but that wasn't the point.

Not stupid at all. Before my daughter was born, I had purchased a six-pack of Tiger Beer from Singapore (think "Time for a Tiger" by Anthony "Clockwork Orange" Burgess) -- it was the only beer in the house when she was born, so it was what I toasted her arrival with -- alas, the local purveyor doesn't carry it anymore, more's the pity. It certainly wasn't the best beer I've ever had, but it now is associated with one of the best memories of my life. The reason why I bought it: because it was one of the more popular beers consumed by Commonwealth forces in the Mayalan Emergency and the ANZACs in Vietnam, and I wanted to try it.
Red Stripe and Tennents Lager also bring back memories of friends and days gone by.

Why Guinness? Because, it is one of my favorite beers along with Pilsner Urquell, Bass Pale Ale and Belhaven. Guinness is scary to me. I'm afraid I could get addicted to it. ;)
Unlike almost all other "stouts" I find it both light and not filling! It's almost too easy to drink, so I limit my intake to one or two pints, or a couple of "black and tans" made with Bass, Harp, or even Fat Tire.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Stay away from the Guinness Black Lager. Now that is definately a "lawn mowing beer". If they had just had the courage to call it Guinness Light, then you'd have a good idea of what you were getting in to. Now much taste, but it'll do to beat the heat after a hot lawn mowing session.

You and I would get along like a house on fore. Those are some fine brews.
