    Question pleating on a Caledonia Kilt

    I am about to purchase a Caledonia tartan kilt but am not stuck on a certain pleating style. Honestly, I like'em all ! I was wondering if any of you could post pix of your kilt pleats if you own a Caledonia. Also, in particular, I was thinking of having it done in Kingussie pleats just cause they're different. I just don't know what that would look like, so any pix of those no matter what tartan would be cool too. Thanks.

    Kingussie Looks Great...

    I am not at home at this moment, so don't have access to pictures. I have a Caledonia tartan kilt (in PV) that Skye Highland Outfitters pleated using Kingussie pleating and it is great. I like the kingussie pleating style, and have a woolie that just arrived at my Postal Annex box that I am very anxious to pick up (nay, dying to pick up ) that was made by John Hart of Keltoi (a forum sponsor). While it is not Caledonia tartan I mention this because John is a very skilled kilt maker and offers kingussie pleating.

    THis is a 6 yard ancient Caledonia that was started by my daughter and finished by me. It is part of the new fat me collection, and it is pleated to the red stripe with small light blue bars on either side of the red stripe. Its a little busy in back, but this kilt has great meaning to me for parental reasons and I enjoy wearing it. Here's a pic that you can kinda see the pleating-I'll look for a better one-

    If I'm ever to have an 8 yard kilt made in this tartan, I will certainly pleat it to the green bar giving it this effect-

    Thumbs up

    Caledonia is a very colorful, great looking tartan. Because it's design is so 'busy' I don't think pleating it to one line would be very easy, or do it justice. So pleating to the sett gets my vote. (to be honest, all but one of my tartan kilts are done to the sett)

    I don't have a pleat photo of me wearing mine, but here's a quick one of it laid out. This is a USA Kilts Semi-trad, knife pleated to the sett;
    Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

    If 'twere I, I think I'd try to hide the red and show the blue as much as possible.
    I like the Kingussie, and I'm looking forward to getting home today so i can see the pictures. I'm at work and the pics show up as cute little Xs.

    Here's a pic of a casual Caledonia pleated to the stripe

    No doubt this is a busy tartan, but remember that pleating to the stripe or bar gives the kilt a unique touch that is beautiful. Pleating to the sett is fine, but doesn't give the kilt look that extra interesting detail...just my opinion.

    NORCALPIPER: Looks good. Where did you get the flashes ? Those are Caledonia as well, right ?

    SEANACHIE: If at all possible, find a way to send me a pic of your Caledonia Kinguisse from Skye Highland. Thats exactly who I was going to use so that would be a perfect example of what mine would look like !

    I agree with the comments about pleating to the sett. The tartan is a great one and thats why I really want your opinions. I don't want to take away from the tartan by having the thing pleated what would be considered wrong for the individual tartan. We all know, some look better than others with certain pleat syles. Thanks guys and anyone else who wants to comment can keep it coming.
