    Greetings from Bergen

    Hi all,
Been lurking for a while, but time to dive in.

Not so much a first timer for the Kilt, had my first as a 6 year old, but haven’t had one for a while.

Here in Norway there’s a strong tradition of wearing the Bunad and so I decided I needed to show my own heritage. The big day is the 17th May so I’m giving the outfit a first full outing.

    So far I’ve invested in
    • 8 yard in Leslie Hunting 16oz (House of Edgar) pleated to the sett made by Highland Clans. Fly Plaid to go with it.
    • Sheriffmuir Doublet in Black Barathea, also from Highland Clans
    • Tweed Jacket and Waistcoat in Lovat Green with Braemar cuffs – Hector Russel
    • Sporrans – 1 Goathair, 1 Sealskin, 1 Black Horsehair
    • In addition there are various other accessories.

One of the things I’m interested in is how elements of the Bunad can be adapted. There are Hose and garter ties, Bunad Silver (Buttons, shoe buckles, etc ). I’m also looking for something suitable to use as a kilt pin that would pick up on the Norwegian influence. I’ve seen a few good broaches based on Viking carvings, and obviously these have a lot of similarity to Celtic knotwork, but haven’t found the right piece yet.

Welcome from Valley Forge, PA. Would a Viking ship work?

I'm curious why there should be an obvious similarity between Viking carvings and Celtic Knotwork, my history is a bit rusty. I've seen intricate Pictish stone carvings and rune stones, and they at least seemed different. I've not seen that many of either though.
