What can I say that hasn't been said? That's a really good look and will get better with garter ties in place of the flashes. You look "at home" in that jacket. I don't know how some guys can pull off a look like that, because I sure as heck can't!

    Really sharp!!

Hey dude, my wedding is one week rather than six. If you don't have the time or cash to change anything, don't sweat it, you look great.

If you do have the cash, you might consider black or yellow garter ties - depending on the bridesmaids dresses. Maroon ties probably won't match your kilt exactly, so don't bother. I am not up on Welsh minutae as a subset, in general the Scots get by with one set of garter ties in bright red and a second set in bright blue. I have a third pair in yellow because of my bridesmaids dresses...but it looks like I can use them after the wedding too.

With your pic open in one window and the STM Lewis line in one tab over, you might consider claret, ecru (really, why not?), bottle green, and navy blue, I think.

A couple pics of the STM/Lewis "yellow" in bright sun behind this link: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...her-stm-66033/

Of all the pictures of ghillie brogues I have seen combing this website, you are one of maybe half a dozen people who can make them look good. Since I have a good idea of about how broke you are about to be, keep the ghilles for the wedding; you already have them and you look great in them.

Perhaps a bit more shirt cuff showing then you intended on the right wrist.

Your jacket is awesome and the stock works well. I encourage you to keep the hose, the ghillies, the waistcoat and the jacket for future formals.

The hose are freaking stunning, kudo's all around on that one.

Absolutely top-notch, I love the jacket - I want one!!
You would look fine even at a Royal Wedding dressed like that.

Like others here, I prefer the traditional ties. They are more comfortable than the elastic garters.

If you aren't crazy about the buckle shoes, then a brogue like the one Cowher has suggested would work, as would a plain toe shoe. However, that being said, it's your wedding, if you want to wear the ghillies, then wear them. After all, the day is about your bride and you. Not what anybody else thinks. BTW, congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.
Thank you for that. I typically tend to do what I want, regardless of what anybody tells me, but I'm trying to balance that young man's brand of obstinacy with the wisdom of listening to good advice (appropriate, since I'm no longer that young!). I personally like the Highlander style shoes offered at Keltoi (rather than the bar & buckle), but my main concerns now are time and money...the wedding is June 18th and already having its way with my bank account. I love all the advice you ladies and gentlemen have given, and look forward to reading what everybody thinks of my "final" wedding day ensemble!

You're very kind! Sound logistical advice on the ghillies, and looking at your ties, I think the yellow would look great against the thin yellow stripe in my tartan. How about the tag hanging off my left cuff? I mistakenly left it on (too darn excited to even notice it), but now I've grown accustomed to seeing it there? Maybe a new "urban" style trend started here on XMTS?

Somehow my response got mixed up in your quote. I love the idea of going with yellow ties--should look great with my tartan. Yours looked fantastic!

I'm also not a fan of tartan flashes, though. So if I were to change one thing I'd say go with solid garters or flashes. A deep maroon to match the main color of the kilt would look great.

On the subject of shoes what does everyone think of these?

Those are nice looking shoes, but too casual (look at the thick sole) for a Sheriffmuir. Also, a wingtip is traditionally a 'country' shoe, even though it's mostly worn with suits in the US.

    To LitTrog,
if you're looking for a nice shoe that you could wear for dress kilting OR with a suit, you can't go wrong with a Cap-Toe Balmoral.

These are expensive, but they'll practically last you a lifetime with some care. You can also find less expensive Florsheim versions.

    flashes/garters

The use of garters or flashes is actually necessary with these hose..not in terms of appearance, but I fear for their ability to stay in place if I am to boogie with any kind of celebratory vigor!

For a first outfir from scratch, I think you did great. The flashes you have are fine, but would indeed be slightly improved by going to the ties recommended by others. As for the shoes, I'll make no comment. Being a piper, I tend to wear ghillie brogues most of the time and just plain old dresss shoes when I'm kilted and not piping.

Of course, I've only been kilted for a very short time, compared to some of the gents here. Some, longer than I've been alive.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?
