    The jacket

It will button up without being tight so I just need perhaps about 3 inches of chain.
(I had to re-sew on the single button as was loose.)
The spare button came with the jacket so is exactly the same.

Will give it a go next week and post pics.

    Thanks all.

    Chris.

The Brian Boru jacket is usually fastened with the chain. http://www.scotweb.co.uk/products/ir...ack-with-vest/

I think it looks better without the chain. I also wish I had an Argyll and waistcoat.

Argyll jackets fastened with two buttons and chain have become very popular with Pipe Bands and Drum Majors the last couple years.

I think they're popular because they look smart and neat but give more comfort and range of motion than an Argyll which was buttoned normally would do.

When a piper doesn't button his Argyll jacket, oftentimes the side of the jacket where the bagpipe's bag is gets crumpled up in the piper's armpit when he strikes in the pipes. You see it all the time.

I am not to keen on the double button with chain closure look myself, but alas, that is my humbled opinion. I do agree that this look tends to be smarter on the classic black Argyll that many bandsmen wear. Everything else looks good mate!

    Cheers,

    Thanks for your thoughts.
I tried it but decided not to bother. I had to use a large diameter metal washer on the back of the spare button because of the large buttonhole. Whenever I twisted round it pulled the button out. This then made it fiddly to fit and if I wanted the jacket open all the way I then had to fiddle about to remove the chain. Too much hassle so I will not bother.

    Chris.
